Black Dot

Black Dot enters as a special part of this year’s programme in which we create space for imagining new structures through clubbing and dance. Darkness, lights, our bodies together share the rhythm of music which both creates a powerful sound and drags us into the spirals of different colliding worlds. Jasmin and Kristijan behind the Black Dot duo, each with his own music-making practice, enter the common field of creating cherry-picked sounds in an evening intended first and foremost for celebrating the pleasure of the resonance of music penetrating into dance. Black Dot’s live performances are an intense experience, with live vocals and a performance immersing the audience into a shared dance ritual.

Black Dot are retro-futuristic romantics Christian Kroupa (Slovenia) and Le Chocolat Noir (Croatia), artists with a long and successful presence on the music scene with their solo projects, with which they have performed on many larger and more intimate club and festival stages from Los Angeles to Tokyo.

The duo was established during the pandemic, via virtual communication that soon took physical form with their first release for the Slovenian label KRI Records, Worlds Connect. Their music works like a soundtrack to the brutalism of the past and the apocalyptic feeling of the present – imbued with a critique of inhumanity, but also a belief in justice achievable through love, communication and the enduring human longing for progress and the exploration of distant worlds and galaxies.

Recently they issued their fourth release, Lust, which also marks their return to KRI Records, after two notable releases: Structure Without Tomorrow for Berlin’s Mechatronica and Love At Glance for Barcelona’s Italo Moderni. Their records have regularly found their way to dance floors through the sets of selectors and DJs such as Helena Hauff, The Hacker and Dave Clarke, while one of the remixes is by Marcel Dettmann. Carhartt WIP used their hit song Rainbow Children for their virtual social media campaign.
